Classical Ashtanga Rishi Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program

The Atmalaya® Institute Yoga Teacher Training Program is considered to be among the best YTT programs on the planet. This 1000 hour program is double that of most programs. Designed to be completed either through full time or part time study students will have the opportunity to gain certification in levels. In addition to certification, appropriate titles will be granted depending upon level of understanding and personal mastery of the concepts. Course Description:

This 27 month Part time teacher training program is founded upon a 108 lesson Sadhana based curriculum plus additional research based homework, and Seva based projects approved by the Acharya. The 108 lessons are divided into 9 levels with 12 lessons each so a teacher can become a student teacher after completing each level. Student teachers are able to become full teachers specific to the level they have attained after completing Level 3. The Level 3 certification equates to a 300 hour certification and Level 5 equates to a 500 hour certification. To complete the course requirements all students must also fulfill the practicum requirements outlined below. Titles will be awarded to deserving students once certain benchmarks have been achieved; students can expect conference of these titles upon completion of the following levels.

Level 2: Yoga Parichaya
Level 4: Yoga Shikshaka
Level 5: Yoga Praveen
Level 6: Yoga Adhyapaka
Level 7: Yoga Pradhyapaka
Level 9: Yoga Pandit

Yogacharya Title is conferred by the senior Acharya, Mahant or Guru of lineage.

While this course more than meets with the Yoga Alliance and the International Yoga Federation’s 500 hour requirements for Teacher Training programs, it has not yet been formally acknowledged; it is our intention to have this program recognized by these prestigious organizations in the near future.

A complete and thorough initiation into Classical Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga as espoused by Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri will include studies of;

o    Elective studies of several other Yogic texts

•    Yamas & Niyamas
•    Asanas
•    Pranayamas
•    Mudras
•    Mantras
•    Introduction into various aspects of:

o    Hatha Yoga
o    Jnana Yoga
o    Bhakti Yoga
o    Dakshina Marga Tantra Yoga,
o    The Bahiranga and Antaranga systems of Raja Yoga
o    Kundalini and Charka Yoga

•    Raja Yoga systems of Dharana and Meditation
•    Kriyas & Prakriyas
•    Bandhas
•    Cleansing Practices of Jalla Neti and Sutra Neti
•    The Shat Karmas

The will be a strong emphasis on Seva as Sadhana and the pursuit of a traditional Yogic Rishi way of life.

Students will also have the opportunity to go on a Pilgrimage to India and study at the International Center for Yoga Education and Research at Ananda Ashram in Pondicherry South India and as well visit several sacred sites and Temples.

Experiential Requirements


A detailed log of teaching experience (Min 100 hours) is required for graduation. This category includes various projects dictated by the Acharya and is student specific. Examples are meditation, volunteerism, and may include student teaching.
